Molten steel, water, induction and electric system

Museum of Old and New Art, Hobart, Australia

Molten steel, heated to 1500°C, pours from the ceiling of a darkened gallery, casting intense light into the void. First presented at the 2022 Venice Biennale, the work recalled the dramatic chiaroscuro of Caravaggio’s Beheading of Saint John the Baptist. Here, matter becomes time, and the fall of steel a cycle of appearance and disappearance. In a world on the brink, destruction opens the space for renewal.
